An outing that some of the AMEC wives and I did was to Ichimay Wari, an art center in Lurin, Peru. Lurin is about a 45 minute ride from Miraflores, where we live. There are about 20 artist that live at this center year round.
They create ceramics, weaving and retablos, which are boxes with figurines that tell a story. We spent a couple of hours touring the various art centers and seeing the artist at work. I really enjoyed visiting the weaving center. The rugs and wall hangings that they create are just amazing. I just love the colors that they use, bright purple, pink, lime green, red.
At Ichimay Wari, they offer classes to learn the various art forms. It is my hope, that one day soon, I will be able to spend a week there to learn how to weave. What a wonderful conversation piece it would be to have a wall hanging at home that I created in Peru!
After buying souvenirs, we stopped for lunch and then made our way home. You can check out more about Ichimay Wari at the “Partners for Just Trade” website…http://www.partnersforjusttrade.org/ht/d/sp/i/282/pid/282
