Apple Picking, Cheese Festivals and Antiquing

We have had a wonderful time in Wisconsin. Perry and Michael were here for about a week and then they headed to Palm Springs, CA to enjoy their new home that they recently purchased. For the past 10 days, David and I house sat and took care of Biscuit, their 11 year old lab and Kiwi, their 23 year old cat. During that time, we did many day trips. South of Madison, we spent a Saturday afternoon at the Monroe Cheese Festival….very crowded, very hot but fun to see. Also, we visited New Glarus which is a cute little town that has a Swiss heritage and many of the stores were Swiss chalet style on the outside.
Another day, was spent visiting picking apples at the local apple orchard. Many days were day trips to the nearby towns and visiting the antique shops. We both agree, however, when living out of suitcases it takes the fun out of antiquing as we didn’t feel that we should really purchase anything….not that we need anything.

Perry and Michael returned today with their French Bulldog, Jack. David and I made our reservation to return to Maine via Amtrak on Monday. We will arrive in Portland around midnight on Wednesday….another adventure plus, they are “luggage friendly” with our 5 large duffel bags and 4 carry-ons.

We have yet to hear where David’s new assignment is going to be. I believe that it is meant to be so David can enjoy the fall and go bird hunting in Maine with his buddy Pete and deer hunting in GA with his buddy, Charlie. Many years he has wanted to hunt and we he just couldn’t get away. So, what a wonderful opportunity, which we are embracing. Our time in WI has been great. We have slept in many mornings, gone for long walks on Perry and Michael’s property, enjoyed having a dog around. We are going to miss our time here.
