Traffic Jam in Cabarete!

I left my condo to walk to the supermarket around 2:00 this Friday afternoon and I saw the first of six of these cylinders being transported through Cabarete. When I came out of the store, about a half hour later, there were two more trucks with cylinders and traffic was backed up! I learned that they were headed to Puerto Plata, normally about a half-hour drive from here, for the Brugal Rum factory.

There was one bucket truck to lift the electric cables up high enough for the cylinders to pass under. Poor planning on someones part…one truck, six cylinders! The answer to this dilemma was for men to walk along next to the cylinders and lift the cables with long poles, as you can see in the picture.

Traffic was wild! Trucks, cars, vans were trying to pass the cylinders any which way they could. Heaven help anyone who was trying to go on the road from the west to the east as it looked like the street was only “one way”…east to west!

As I write this, it has been about 4 hours and is finally running smoothly. Life is never dull around here!
